fmc_revilla_jan18It was the Green Archers’ third game in the Fr. Martin’s Cup. After convincingly winning over Mapua last December and Colegio de Sta. Monica just last week, they fell short over the UP Fighting Maroons.

To be exact, they fell short by 1 point – the final score being 55-56, in favor of the Maroons.

The Archers had a good start, ending the first quarter at 21 points, a third of which belonged to LA Revilla, over the Maroons’ 10. Near the midway point of the second quarter, the Archers stretched their lead to 13, their biggest in the game. After a few plays, the score was 19-30 in favor of DLSU. The Maroons didn’t give up, though, as they shot 9 unanswered points to cut their deficit by 2, ending the 1st half at 30-28.

The third quarter saw the Archers holding on to their precarious lead for most of the period. With 55 seconds to go in the quarter, and the lead still at 2, the Maroons made a free throw to cut the lead to just one single point. Two turnovers by the Archers were converted by the Maroons to two quick baskets, thus, ending the 3rd quarter at 45-42, with the lead now with UP.

The Archers made 2 baskets to start the fourth canto before UP answered with one of its own. Bader Malabes was instrumental in this quarter to keep the Archers afloat, completing a three-point play burying a 3-pointer with 4:30 to go. The Maroons just won’t give up, though, as they answered with a trio of their own, swinging the lead back to their favor, 53-52, near the two-minute mark. Ferdinand was able to tie the game at 53, and Revilla added two more points to bring them up to 55-53. Not losing hope, UP nailed another 3-pointer with 49 seconds left in the game – the shot that won the game for them.

De La Salle Green Archers’ standing is now at 2-1. They will be meeting STI College on Saturday, January 24, 12nn at the La Consolacion Gym.
