Coming from a straight-set loss to UST last Wednesday, the Green Spikers held off a gritty UE squad in a 5-set thriller 25-14, 25-10, 23-25, 22-25, 15-13 Saturday morning for the second win of the season.
Team captain Cris Dumago led the team with 17 points while rookie Billie Anima added 16.
After leading two sets to none, La Salle was unable to adjust to UE’s floor defense which allowed the Red Warriors to come back and tie the match.
It was seesaw affair come the 5th set. With La Salle just two points away from victory, a series of errors allowed UE to tie the count at 13. Fortunately, the Green Spikers showed enough composure down the stretch as they closed it out following a timeout to seal the win.
“Ang maganda is noong dulo nagpakita ng composure ‘yung team kahit ganoon na ‘yung pinakita ng UE. Hopefully, maging consistent kami sa ganoong effort,” said head coach Arnold Laniog.
The team will battle league-leading FEU next Saturday to end the first round.
