The Weekly Rundown: Lady Archers’ semis run cut short

The De La Salle women’s basketball team’s season came to a heartbreaking conclusion last Wednesday as they lost to UST 67-79 in their knockout match for the last berth in the stepladder semi-finals.

With their shots falling early, the Lady Archers raced to an 11-0 but it did not take long for the Tigresses to come back and eventually take the lead come halftime.

The team took the upper hand once more with a 17-6 run but UST quickly answered with 10 straight points to lead by four entering the final quarter. With the deficit now in double figures, the Lady Archers tried everything they could to stage a rally but the Tigresses just had the answers as they went on to win the ballgame and shall join Adamson and FEU in the playoffs. NU is already waiting in the wings in the finals.

Khate Castillo, Camille Claro and Kat Nunez played their final game for the team. Castillo topscored with 20 points. Claro, the last remaining member of La Salle’s championship team in 2013, followed with 15.

The Lady Archers finished the elimination round at 8-6, a big improvement an after injury-plagued season last year in which they only won 3 games.
