Aldin Ayo Formally Announces His Departure From DLSU

Aldin Ayo shall be leaving the La Salle men’s basketball team after two years at the helm.

He formally made the announcement yesterday on his decision. He cited “differences in handling the team” as the reason for no longer returning to coach the Green Archers. Though there were already reported rumors of his impending departure late last year, this move still came as a surprise to many especially since a few weeks ago, team management issued a statement that they shall continue to give him their full trust and support.

Under Ayo, the Green Archers tallied an overall record of 30-5 in the UAAP which includes a championship in 2016 and a runner-up finish last year. He also led the squad to numerous offseason titles such as the 2016 Fil Oil Preseason and the 2017 BLIA Cup in Taiwan.

It has been reported that Ayo will be moving over to UST to fill-in the spot vacated by Boy Sablan. To date, UST has not yet made any formal announcement regarding this.

With Ayo gone, reports say that lead assistant coach Louie Gonzales will be taking over the head coaching duties. No official statement has yet been issued by team management on appointment.

Regardless, the incoming coach will be the team’s 5th since 2010.
