In his return to the Green Archers, Mark Dyke is looking to regain his lost confidence that made him decide to sit out for a year.
The 6’3 forward hardly played in his rookie season in which he was part of the 2016 UAAP championship team. A highly-touted recruit from NU High School, he struggled to find his place in the team’s rotation.
Last year, he went on leave from the team and almost transferred to FEU. He decided to return and has so far been playing quite well in the preseason tournaments.
In last Friday’s FilOil tournament match against UE, Dyke led La Salle with 18 points and 9 rebounds. He scored 7 in the final period as the Green Archers defeated the Red Warriors 71-62 to remain undefeated in with a 5-0 slate.
Last May 18, Dyke finished with a game-high 27 points in the team’s 96-point demolition of UA&P in the Milcu tournament.
With the exposure he is getting now under coach Louie Gonzales, he is hoping to make the most out of the opportunity to prove that he can be counted upon to deliver.
“I feel happy right now because I never thought that I would be in this situation once again. High school is different from college and there was a transition for me,” said Dyke in Filipino
“I actually lost confidence in myself after what happened.”
Under head coach Louie Gonzalez, Dyke said he wants to show that he is still capable of producing numbers no matter how much playing time he’s given.
“Coach just gave me an opportunity even for a few minutes and in that time I will give my best,” “If he decides to put me in, I will do my best.”
We not only look forward to see Mark back in a La Salle uniform next UAAP season, we also hope to see a rebirth in his game as well.
